Regenerative tourism aims to replace traditional tourism with a model designed and carefully managed to bring net benefits to destinations and local citizens.

This project looked at the ways in which it would be possible to prevent environmental degradation on the beaches of Cyprus. It involved exploring the views and needs of many different people with a ‘stake’ in the beach ecosystem including tourists, hoteliers, mayors, policymakers, restaurant/cafe owners and lifeguards. The output of this was a Green Beach Strategy involving a mix of legislative changes and behavioural changes on and off-shore.

This strategy saw year on year improvements to the beach environment on two pilot beaches - Nissi and Protaras.
